Last week I told my co-workers at Dell I was leaving the company to join Microsoft. As we now start spreading the word with friends and family that we are relocating to the Seattle area, things take a more emotional turn.
The decision to leave a good team at Dell, and relocate the family 2,000+ miles away was not a simple one. However, I am very excited about the opportunity. And looking forward to living in a new state, especially given that I have never lived outside of Texas.
Nothing changes with me and MCEC, although this will make it difficult to stay plugged into Baylor. I enjoyed teaching the brand management class in the executive MBA program. And I am hoping to start up a marketing blog with some of the professors at the university.
It's funny to think that we came to Austin kicking and screaming. We were relocated by AAC (my former company) without much say in the matter. The first day here Courtney called me crying wanting to move back to Dallas. Today we have so many friendships we treasure deeply. Although we communicate mostly by email/chat/phone with the friends we have in town, it was comforting to be in the same city. Our lives changed dramatically in Austin, it is a special place for us.
Time permitting I want to share some thoughts on lessons I learned at Dell, the stories behind elaborate practical jokes at work, and a few stories that made an impact on me.
You know, we will probably see each other more now! You never know where a TV story is going to take me!!
