Why MCEC Is Here, Why You Need To Help
General (Ret.) Thomas A. "Tom" Schwartz
MCEC Board of Directors, Chairman
Ten years ago a group of people were sitting around my kitchen table thinking about the children of our military families. These are amazing kids. But they have unique challenges because of their parent's service to our country, especially when it comes to the transitions that come with a deployment, or moving from one assignment to the next.
Everyone wondered who was looking out for these kids besides the parents? Who was trying make the challenges they faced easier? Who was helping other people understand what they needed to do help?
The answer was not a good one. And everyone around that table agreed to do something and make a difference.
I am so proud to be the chairman of this organization because it has an incredible mission--for the sake of the child. This organization is helping make a difference through a network of 1,000+ active volunteers.
We need your help. These kids need your help. We need teachers and trainers to help educators and counselors understand how to support military kids. We need writers to get online and help these parents find answers to the questions they have about how make transitions easier for their kids. We need researchers to help keep our publications and training materials up to date. Everyone can help, everyone has a gift that can be shared for this important cause.
When you are wearing our nation's uniform thousands of miles away from home, it is your son or daughter you think about. It is love for the husband and wife you hugged before you got on a plane that helps give you strength.
As a nation we owe those men and women in uniform our highest efforts to take care of their familes. It is our duty to look out for their kids and lift as many of the burdens they face as possible. We owe that to these kids, and we owe it their parents wearing the uniform.
